2016 was a year in which many of us will never be confident about ever making any predictions about anything – witness Brexit, Trump and, of course, little old Leicester winning the Premiership.

However, we can, nonetheless, be confident that the Government of the day will always introduce changes that impact the insurance industry and, in turn, you, our clients.

News of the hike in Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) to 12 % this summer had already been trailed. However the nature of the change to the personal injury discount rate took most commentators by surprise and we cover this subject below.

Effectively claimants will receive more than the agreed lump sum to reflect the Government’s view of the likely performance of the lowest
risk investments.

In this edition we also talk about the continuing trend towards mergers and acquisitions within the Social Housing space. What impact do these have  on the cost of insurance? There are also culture, branding and other key issues to consider.

Martin Crowe, Commercial Director, raises the subject of tenants insurance and is asking for  your views as to how we could better provide  low cost solutions for your tenants.

We hope you enjoy our spring edition.
