Arthur J. Gallagher has won a competitive tender to provide risk management and insurance broking services to the University of Glasgow on an exclusive basis.

The three-year appointment, which follows a recent public procurement exercise, will see Gallagher deliver local client support and claims handling from its team based on Blythswood Street, Glasgow, combined with the specialist resources and expertise of its UK Public Sector & Education practice.

Alex Sawers, Client Servicing Director for Arthur J. Gallagher in Glasgow, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been appointed by the University of Glasgow, which is not only a prestigious centre of research and learning with global reach but also a major employer within the city with more than 6000 people to look after. This new partnership aptly demonstrates the depth and breadth of resources we can offer all our customers as a community-based broker, able to offer excellent local service backed up by deep sector expertise and capabilities with a national and international focus.”

Tim Devine, Managing Director of Gallagher’s UK Public Sector & Education Practice, added: “We are looking forward to working closely and collaboratively with the University team, to ensure they benefit from our extensive experience in the higher education sector, as well as gain quick access to Gallagher’s broader range of risk sector specialists, such as our clinical trials and crisis management teams, as challenges and solutions demand.”

Ian Thomson, Insurance and Risk Manager at the University of Glasgow, commented: “The ability to offer genuinely local support and claims handling capabilities were key factors in our search for a long-term insurance partner, as was the need to work with a higher education specialist. Gallagher offered us this and more and we’re very pleased to be partnering with them.”

Founded in 1451 and a member of the prestigious Russell Group of leading research establishments, the University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in the English-
speaking world and the only UK university to be rated ‘5 stars plus’ overall in the QS 2015 World University Rankings.
