Andrew joined Arthur J. Gallagher in May 2011, from fellow broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson where he had been Chairman of its London market specialty arm since 2007.
As Managing Director of the London-based Specialty division at Arthur J. Gallagher, Andrew has spent the past three years building out a business of distinct and diverse specialisms, offering depth of expertise in all chosen areas, driven by a determination to deliver competitive advantage to every client on both a wholesale and retail basis. From cyber to construction, mining to marine, and fine art to financial risks, Specialty now offers expertise in more than 20 areas of specific risk exposure as the Lloyd’s and London-market broking arm of Arthur J. Gallagher.
Andrew first set his sights on insurance broking as a career 35 years ago when, after returning from a post-A-level period of overseas work and travelling, he decided to pursue opportunities in the big and complex risk areas of space and oil & gas. Energy won out and he joined CT Bowring in 1979, learning his trade for several years before moving on to join 18-month old start-up Jenner Fenton Slade — an independent Lloyd’s broker specialising in international energy and petrochemical.
In 1994, Jenner Fenton Slade became part of Aon, and three years later Andrew struck out on his own to co-found Lloyd’s broker and energy specialist Agnew Higgins Pickering ('AHP'). In 2007, AHP was merged with JLT Risk Solutions to create JLT’s London market speciality arm.
