Many companies now offer cash allowances to employees who need a car as part of their role, which can be used to purchase their own vehicle, as an alternative to traditional company vehicle schemes. Although responsibility for servicing, maintenance, up-keep and having a valid licence to drive rests with the employee, leaders of professional firms should make employers aware that they have a duty to safeguard their own staff and others from work-related driving activities.
