Ransomware attacks: how to protect your business
Did you know…
…since the beginning of 2016, 4,000 ransomware attacks have occurred every day in the UK.1
What is ransomware?
Ransomware is a type of malicious software that blocks access to a computer or its data and demands money to release it. The software usually finds its way onto a device by exploiting a security hole in vulnerable software or by tricking somebody into installing it, and can be detrimental to business operations as well as financially damaging.
During the WannaCry ransomware attack in May 2017, more than 200,000 computers in 150 countries were hacked.2 The malware encrypted data on infected computers and demanded a ransom roughly equivalent to £230 ($300). WannaCry was the biggest cyber-attack to have hit the NHS to date.3
