Arthur J. Gallagher — the international division of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. outside of the United States — today announces the appointment of Lady Louise Patten as an independent non-executive director of Arthur J. Gallagher Holdings (UK) Limited Board, subject to regulatory approval. She will also sit as an independent non-executive director on both its Remuneration & Nominations Committee and Risk Committee.

In addition to her position on the Arthur J. Gallagher Holdings (UK) Limited Board, Louise will be non-executive chairman of its UK Retail regulated entity — Arthur J. Gallagher Insurance Brokers Limited.

With an illustrious business career spanning nearly 40 years, Louise is currently senior adviser at global strategic consulting firm Bain & Company, having previously been a partner since 1993 focused on the retail and financial services sectors. She is also non-executive director at FTSE 100 firm Intu Properties, which owns and/or manages many of the UK’s top shopping centres, and senior independent director and chairman of the remuneration committee at AIM-listed life sciences company Abcam.

Having begun her career in corporate and investment banking, Louise moved into management consultancy in 1985 and became a main board director of her first FTSE 100 company — Hilton Group — while still in her thirties. She has since served on a succession of multinational boards, both in director and chairman roles, for other major UK businesses including Marks & Spencer, Somerfield and retailing conglomerate GUS, now split into its component parts Burberry, Experian and Home Retail Group. More recently, Louise has served as audit committee chairman and non-executive director at Control Risks Group and NED at the British government controlled UK Asset Resolution.

Grahame Chilton, CEO of Arthur J. Gallagher International, said: “Louise is not only hugely admired and universally respected as a driven, tenacious and committed independent non-executive director, but a passionate and enthusiastic enabler of business. I am absolutely delighted that she has chosen to join the team here at Gallagher where her extensive experience will be incredibly beneficial as we execute on our strategic growth plans and seek to optimise performance while enhancing our customers’ experience.”

Commenting on her new role, Louise said: “I’m genuinely excited by the vision, aspirations and appetite to continually improve that I’ve found here at Gallagher. The potential for this business is tremendous and I’m very much looking forward to working with Chily and the wider leadership team as well as my fellow independent non-executive directors to provide a creative and valuable contribution to its growth story.”
